Recent Word from our friends at CMC Vellore Foundation is…

CMC Vellore Hospital,President J.V. Peter, sent word to New York, that,””Although the second wave continues to wane, albeit slowly in our region, we are on guard to ensure that we are prepared to face the challenges ahead. We have finally been able to reduce our bed allocation for COVID from 1150 beds at the peak of the pandemic to 915 beds now. Other non-COVID services are gradually being opened up. We are also working towards enhancing vaccination in our region since this is one aspect that would mitigate the effects of a third wave.”

As a result, CMC Foundation, in addition to raising Covid relief funds, will direct the attention to raising monies to assist funding existing outreach programs with vaccines. To that end John Riehl, CMC Foundation President, announced, ” As we continue to solicit support for CMC in its ongoing efforts to combat the second wave of COVID infections, we have shifted our attention and efforts toward raising $400,000 to be used for the purchase of vaccines needed to inoculate 70,000 people in just 60 days. CMC has named this new initiative their Vaccinate Vellore campaign.”

This is a daunting endeavor, especially coming on top of an already valiant effort, to wit:

The past two months, They have received just shy of $1.5 million, having already transferred more than $1.1 million into their COVID-designated bank accounts. The Foundation working on acquiring in-kind contributions (of medical equipment and supplies anticipate receiving gifts-in-kind equally approximately $600,000.  This is a work-in progress and we should all say a prayer and if anyone knows of a medical speciality company who could be of assistance, please to contact them.

John Riehl has also informed us that Dr. Shameen Prashantham, the author of the article entitled When Business as Usual Isn’t Working, Look to Nonprofits for Inspiration published in the September 2020 edition of the Harvard Business Review, will be lecturing on the topic of “Key Organizational Mindsets for Maximizing Social Impact” on Friday, June 18th at 10:00 am EDT. All in all, the Scudder Association Foundation, is proud of the work John, his staff and the CMC Board are doing during this trying ordeal.

“‘’Illay,* Amma,’ the brahmin replied proudly. ‘I would not think of having a man deliver my wife: I would rather that she should die than be seen by another man. If you cannot come, I must lose her.’ Ida had pled with the husband to let her father, Dr. John, deliver the baby, but to no avail. She had even offered to go with them and do what she could under her father’s direction, but the Brahmin was adamant. She had no medical training: she was forced to let this husband go without aid for his dying wife.
