Service to Others

Isabelle Scudder, the daughter of Ezekiel, was born in Arni. She and her husband, Ernest, devoted educators, founded Chevy Chase Junior College in Chevy Chase, MD. They left the college plus the large bequest to the Scudder Association that formed the basis of the Foundation’s endowment.

Since the 1940s the Scudder Association has awarded scholarships in the fields of medicine, education, social welfare, science, humanitarian studies and theology. Today these Dr. Ida Scudder Scholarships are awarded to our South India hospitals which then decide to which students they will be given.

In 2026, the Foundation awarded $20,000 in educational grants to potential doctors and nurses at the Christian Medical Center and Hospital in Vellore.
