A Fitting Tribute to a Great Humanitarian

Thursday, November 6, is going to be a very special night in New York as the Reformed Church in America pays tribute to one of its most notable missionaries, Dr. Ida Sophia Scudder.
The evening will also commemorate two significant mission anniversaries, the 125th anniversary of the founding of the Christian Medical Center and College in Vellore, India, and the 150th anniversary of the church’s Woman’s Board of Foreign Missions, the organization that commissioned Ida to follow her call to mission.
The free program at the Interchurch Center Chapel at 475 Riverside Drive will feature guest speaker Renee Scudder, a Scudder Association Foundation board member who will offer personal reflections on Ida’s enduring impact and the generational call to service that still echoes today. Renee worked at CMC’s Psychiatry Department in 1984 as a young psychiatric intern and has remained in close contact with CMC since.

Also speaking will be Reverends Eric and Meredith Schrotenboer, authors of the new picture book titled “Ida and the Three Visitors.” The book invites readers of all ages to consider what it truly means to be a missionary—whether across the world or within one’s own community. Eric and Meredith will bless guests with a book reading, Q&A, and a book signing during a closing reception. Books will be available for $20.00.
