Three Sons of Henry Scudder, Yeoman of Horton Kirby, Kent continued: Correction #2.
In this issue of our online Journal, we continue our series of articles to clarify and correct the history of the three sons of Henry Scudder, Yeoman of Horton Kirby, Kent (read Our Story begins with Henry Skudder (Scudder) Yeoman). This is necessary due to frequent errors that appear in biographies of Thomas Scudder, the immigrant to Salem, Massachusetts and his wife Elizabeth ___?. Future issues of the Journal will correct mistakes commonly found about Thomas1’s two brothers, Rev. Henry1 Scudder, rector at Collingbourne Ducis, Wiltshire and John1 who died as a young father at Strood, Kent (read The Three Sons of Henry Scudder).
For the benefit of tens of thousands of descendants of Thomas Scudder and his wife Elizabeth ___?, we review again essential primary sources of historical fact and identify the origins of persistent fiction about the identity of Thomas1’s wife. These errors persist even though the Scudder Association has repeatedly published the correct information since 1966 (read Straight from the Horses Mouth).
We hope this current issue of the Journal removes ambiguities and discrepancies that newcomers or veterans encounter when researching the Scudder family. We hope it ends the mistakes about Thomas1 that harm the accuracy of our Scudder family’s history from these significant errors in print, both old and recent, and on the Internet.
Just as we did in the first two issues of our Journal, by going back to the original primary sources of fact regarding their ancestral home in England, we now discuss the essential sources to promote the correct understanding of Thomas1 and his wife Elizabeth ___?’s history. We also show where these persistent speculative errors crept in to overwhelm the truth. This effort should enable us all to construct our Scudder family history with greater accuracy going forward (read Correction #2.Thomas Scudder Did Not Marry Elizabeth Lowers!).
